The project analyzes how the transport transition in rural areas is framed politically and enabled or limited administratively. The focus is on financial viability, responsibilities, and location policy as criteria that make certain futures appear realistic, while others remain invisible. The work combines ethnographic field research with a power-theoretical perspective on municipal governance.

Since July 2025, Simon Schneider has been conducting research on reconstruction in Turkey. Here he describes his impressions.

In the project PartEEnschaften – Transformative Participation in Renewable Energy Landscapes, Kim Dittmann examines how behavioral scientists conceptualize and enable participation and explores what contributions ethnographic perspectives can make.

My research examines the agency and impact of individuals, material entities, and energy in response to environmental changes such as the increase in motor vehicles and the impacts of climate change in the Kingdom of Tonga. During my research stays in Tonga in 2018, 2022/2023, and 2024, it became clear that the evaluation or assessment of individual environmental changes, beyond ecological parameters, is primarily driven by political and economic influences.
